CrossFit Kids and Teens Program

CROSSIFT KIDS AND TEENS PROGRAM

What is the CrossFit Kids and Teens Program?

CrossFit Kids and Teens offers a fun, engaging, and structured way for young people to improve their fitness while building confidence and developing healthy habits that last a lifetime. Through age-appropriate workouts, kids and teens enhance their strength, coordination, flexibility, and cardiovascular health. The emphasis on functional movements not only improves athletic performance but also promotes discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. Beyond physical fitness, CrossFit for youth fosters a positive mindset, teaching resilience and goal-setting, while encouraging a love for movement and a healthy lifestyle. Whether they’re building muscle or boosting self-esteem, CrossFit Kids and Teens empowers youth to be their best, both inside and outside the gym.

CrossFit Programming for kids.

Our Kids and Teens programming is not a lighter version of CrossFit. It is specifically designed to be age-appropriate in parallel with the development of kids’ and teens' bodies while they are growing. Our programs are carefully designed to improve kids and teens movement and provide them with a positive foundation in health and fitness that they can carry with them for life.

We run a structured 9-week program where we teach kids and teens the 9 foundation movements of CrossFit and training. This program rotates each week and improves on the  previous week’s work.

How do classes run?

We run a structured program with the following class format:

  • Mobility / Warm-up - 10mins. Typically games based and encourages involvement, fun and laughter. This teaches them how to prepare for exercise correctly, safely and improves their mobility.

  • Skills / Strength work - 15mins. Each class we work on improving a skill, movement or a strength exercise. This component will change each day to allow us to coach a variety of different skills and movements. The emphasis on this section is to teach kids and teens how to move correctly, safely and effectively so they build great foundations in training and exercise.

  • Workout - 10-15mins. This is where our kids will get out of breath and improve their cardio capacity, speed, agility and the ability to work as hard as they want to. Each child is encouraged to work at their own capacity and pace.

What are the age categories?

5-7 years. This our CrossFit Squids program, where the aim of the program is to build healthy relationships with kids and fitness, exercise and training. The program is a games based program where the aim is to teach and coach gross motors skill, co-ordination and correct movement patterns.

8-12 years. This is our CrossFit Kids program, where the basics of movements are covered and the emphasis is on making exercise and training a fun and engaging activity for kids. We use equipment such as body weight, medicine balls, dumbells and kettlebells.

13-17 years. This is our CrossFit Teens program where we build on the basics and improve the teens’ strength, skills and broaden their fitness abilities. This program will take your kids from kids to athletes and where we will teach them how to train and think like athletes. We introduce barbells to our teens once they have mastered the foundations of moving well first.

Our CrossFit Kids Coaches

Florent Morandin - Hi, my name is Florent, I'm French and I've been a CrossFit coach for 10 years, I hold several diplomas in sport, some of which are specialized in children and teenagers. I started teaching CrossFit to teenagers in 2017 at the college on Reunion Island. In 2020 the gyms were closed because of Covid, so I went to work in a home for young people with disabilities. I coach both children and teenagers. After 1 year I went back to coaching in a CrossFit gym. In 2023 I arrived in Australia where I was lucky enough to join CrossFit Maroubra to teach. But I also coached the Crossfit and kids classes at CrossFit abode in Darwin for 1 month. I can't wait to start this new adventure!

Becca Lole - My Name is Becca, I’m 21 and from Scotland. CrossFit has been my passion ever since I was 9 when I started my own journey through CrossFit Kids and Teens. I love coaching CrossFit as I find it extremely rewarding and I love meeting people from all over the world. I’m very excited to be able to take on the opportunity to coach the CrossFit Kids / Teens program and introduce a new generation of kids to fitness and health.

How often should my child attend CrossFit?

There is no limit to how many classes kids can attend as they are age appropriate, however we run 3 kids and 3 teens classes per week. If your teen is assessed by our coaches to be able to join the adult CrossFit classes they will be able to attend those classes as well as the teens classes.

When can my child start?

Your child can start at any time, there is no specific start date or start of a program that they need to start from.

Memberships are paid through direct debit weekly. Memberships are able to be put on hold if a child is not able to attend with prior notice of the membership hold request. If a child misses a class or a week of training, these sessions cannot not be made up or used for the next week.

Membership holds and cancellations. If you wish to put a hold or cancellation on your membership we require 7 days notice, via email with the dates of hold (start date and finish date) or cancellation date you require.

Class sizes are capped at 10 for kids and 12 for teens.

Coaches are able to scale all movements and workouts to suit each child depending on their individual skills and abilities. Coaches will ensure that they provide all kids with individual coaching and attention during each class.

All our CrossFit Kids Coaches have their ‘working with children’ certificates.

We have 3 individual lockable change rooms for kids and teens to change in.

Can parents stay, join in on our adult CrossFit class, our Strength and Muscle class or leave and then pick up their kids after the completion of the class.

You will need to pick up your kids directly after the completion of the class. We will not allow kids to leave the facility unless a parent or representative is present to pick them up.

Teens are able to come and go without a parent present if their parent has given us the approval to do so.
